The same funicular that takes you to the mine also takes you to the postcard view.

What it actually is

The Hallstatt Skywalk is a cantilevered viewing platform at the top of the Salzbergbahn funicular, extending out over the slope with an open view down across the roofs of the village, the Hallstättersee, and the mountains on the far shore. It shares the same access point as the salt mine tour, so most visitors combine the two in a single trip up.

Combining it with the mine tour

Because the funicular ticket and mine-tour ticket are handled together at the same base station, the practical order is usually: ride up, do the guided mine tour first (it runs on a fixed schedule), then walk to the Skywalk platform afterward at your own pace before heading back down.

What the view actually shows

From the platform, the classic "postcard" framing of Hallstatt — lakefront houses, church spire, water — is visible from above rather than the famous lakeside angle used in most photographs (that shot is taken from a small viewpoint on the opposite side of the lake; see the photography guide for that one specifically). The Skywalk view is broader and higher, better for understanding how the village actually sits against the mountain than for the single iconic shot.
